The Diplomats of Funk is a collaboration between Grammy-winning credited engineer/producer/organist Jay Frigoletto and composer/arranger/guitarist Owen Ross. Through a shared love of R&B, funk, soul, and jazz they create a new voice for the classic organ trio. With nods to the past and eyes to the future, the Diplomats of Funk trio simply grooves.


Jay Frigoletto: Hammond organ

Bandleader Jay Frigoletto is a veteran of the Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Boston music scenes. As a producer/engineer his credits include multiple gold, platinum, multi-platinum and Grammy-winning albums, working with a range of artists including Alice in Chains, Ani DiFranco, Black-Eyed Peas, INXS, Oasis, and Eddie Money. A Berklee-trained pianist, organist, and virtuoso multi-instrumentalist, he has toured, performed and recorded across the USA, Canada, and Europe with Diplomats of Funk and artists such as Peter Prince & Moon Boot Lover, Speech (Arrested Development), and the Furious Bongos (touring Zappa tribute with Chad Wackerman).

Owen Ross: Guitar

Owen Ross is a jazz guitarist, composer, and producer whose music is imbued with influences of hard bop, funk, & R&B. Ross has captivated audiences around the world with his soulful playing and emotive compositions, both as a solo artist and with Diplomats of Funk. Based in Montana and New England, Ross serves as a faculty member at the University of Montana School of Music, and as an in-house engineer and arranger at Oak Hill Music and Studio Metronome in New Hampshire.

ben kersh: drums

Ben Kersh is a Boston based musician with a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music. He has shared the stage with acts such as The Marshall Tucker Band, the Cars and Robert Randolph, playing at notable local venues including The Sinclair, Paradise, Brighton Music Hall and The Royale. He is a member of the jam band, Sons of Levin, and is featured on their most recent release EP II.

ezra platt: guitar

Ezra Platt is an award-winning Guitarist/Composer based out of New England, USA. Stylistically, he combines influences from Jazz, Classical, Electronic, Hip-hop, Ambient, Rock, Metal and Rnb for a personalized forray into sound and experimentation. While equally adept on electric and acoustic guitars, he also demonstrates his prowess on electric bass, synthesizers, vocals and production on his current and upcoming solo releases.

charles langfor: saxophone

Charles Langford came to the Northeast USA, studying at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the New School for Social Research in New York City. He studied composition and teaching with Billy Harper, Donald Byrd, and Barry Harris. Prior to that Mr. Langford had studied with Archie Shepp and Yusef Latef. Charles Langford has become one of the Boston area's top A-list players, with artists ranging from The Toni Lynn Washington Blues Band to The Temptations and Mighty Sam McClain. He's paid his dues and put in years with Melvin Sparks, Norman Connors, Solomon Burke, and Steve Turre.
